On November 4, we’ll be kicking off another new class, partnered with After School All-Stars, one of the largest middle-school aged after school programs in the country. We’ll be joining their programming at Cassady Elementary School on the East side of Columbus.

We’re really excited about this class for two reasons: 1) this is our first class with a new partner (ASAS) and 2) this is the first time since forming that our Ohio chapter is able to run two consecutive classes at two locations.

After School All-Stars describes what they do as follows:

After-School All-Stars creates programs designed to equip students with the tools they need to build knowledge, skills, and habits to thrive in our ever-changing economy.

After-School All-Stars implements comprehensive, community-oriented programs to low-income students in five areas: Health and Wellness, Academic Readiness, STEM, Career Exploration, and Visual and Performing Arts.

They are a great fit as a partner organization for Guitars Not Guns Ohio, and we’re thankful we’ve been able to launch a new program with them.

As always, we’re looking for volunteers to help teach classes. The commitment is no more than one hour per week. The benefit you’ll provide and the fulfillment you’ll experience is far greater than the work you have to put in.

If you can play guitar at a novice or better level and you’re a good role model for kids, you’re qualified. Read more about it and fill out the volunteer submission form, so we can have a conversation. (Or, send it to someone you know who might be interested.)
