As of last week, we’ve officially signed on to offer another class in partnership with Boys and Girls Club of Columbus! We’ll be offering the class at their Pheasant Run location, on the East side of Columbus, starting when BGCC programming resumes in January 2019.
We learned a ton about how to run the program. Last year was our pilot run with the RISE location in Italian Village, and while very successful, there were certainly bumps.
But, it gave us the opportunity to experience the program first-hand, so we can provide a higher quality one in the future.
The following changes are going to be executed for the next class:
- New curriculum content that is a little more appropriate in terms of sequence of lessons for someone who has never touched a guitar.
- Expanding the program from 10 weeks to 14 weeks.
- Expanding the program from once a week to twice a week (one lesson, one guided practice).
- Incorporating more modern, popular songs into the lessons, so the students can relate better to the music they learn.
All of it is in service of making sure that when the students finish the class and take home their guitars, they have enough experience to continue learning on their own.
We look forward to rolling out these changes in January!
Are you interested in volunteering? We currently need a handful more teachers to adequately cover this class. Check out our Volunteer page for all the details and a form to get started.
